CLIMATE

What about Malta?
Singapore is a tiny island that gets REALLY hot and sticky, but it's super smart about dealing with the heat! This amazing little country has found clever ways to stay cool, save water, and make sure everyone has a good place to live even when the weather gets tough.

Lets go!
What is Climate?
Climate is how Earth’s weather works over a long time, like keeping the air clean and stopping big problems like too much heat or storms.

Taking care of our climate means protecting our planet from getting too sick to support us and the animals that live here.

Super Hot Days and Sticky Nights !

Singapore is already really hot and humid (sticky) every day! But climate change is making it even hotter.

What's happening?

Singapore could get up to 5°C hotter by 2100 - that's like turning the oven up! Very hot days over 35°C could jump from just 4 days a year to 351 days a year. That means it would be super hot almost every single day! Nights might stay above 26°C almost every night, making it hard to sleep without air conditioning.

What are they doing?

Singapore is testing special white paint on buildings that reflects heat away, like wearing a white shirt on a sunny day. This amazing paint can make buildings up to 15°C cooler inside! Scientists are even testing paint that changes colors depending on the temperature.

They built underground tunnels with cold air to cool down buildings in the city center, saving lots of energy. These tunnels carry chilled water and cool air through pipes like an underground river of coolness!

Planting millions of trees and creating parks everywhere to make the city cooler and more comfortable. Special tree doctors take care of each tree, and they create "cool corridors" where people can walk in shade across the whole city.

When the Sea Gets Too High!

Singapore is really flat and close to the sea level. If sea levels rise, the whole island could flood!

About one-third of Singapore is less than 5 meters above sea level (that's like being on the second floor of a house). Sea levels could rise by 1 meter by 2100, and during big storms, water could get as high as 5 meters - that's enough to flood lots of homes and buildings.

What are they doing?

Creating strong walls along the coast to keep the ocean from flooding the land. These special walls can bend and flex when big waves hit them so they don't break, and they have curved shapes that make waves bounce back to sea.

Singapore is also building a huge artificial island called "Long Island" to protect the coast. Giant ships bring millions of tons of sand and rocks to build this new piece of land, like the world's biggest sandcastle project!

Flash Floods and Super Storms

Sometimes Singapore gets huge rainstorms that can flood streets really quickly!

Climate change means Singapore might get longer, more intense rainy seasons and worse dry periods. Heavy rain can overwhelm drains and cause flash floods that fill up streets with water really fast.

What Are they doing?

Singapore is Using computers and sensors to predict floods before they happen. These super-smart computers can see inside clouds with special radar and predict floods 2 hours before they happen, giving everyone time to get ready!

They are also building bigger and better drainage systems to handle more rainwater. These aren't just regular drains - they're like underground rivers with special chambers that work like giant bathtubs to collect and release water slowly.
