In our story, Mauritius is where Dodo zoomed back to his ancient home! On "Operation Rising Tides," he splashed through eroding beaches, gasped at colorful birds in wild forests, and helped save farms from changing weather! Amina and Zaid showed Dodo how his birthplace is fighting back with awesome inventions and clever nature tricks!

ALL ABOUT MAuritius

Mauritius is a beautiful island nation located in the Indian Ocean, about 2,000 kilometers off the east coast of Africa. The country is made up of the main island of Mauritius plus smaller islands like Rodrigues and Agaléga. Mauritius is famous for its white sandy beaches, clear blue waters, and the now-extinct dodo bird that once lived only on this island!
RESIDENTS
Population: About 1.3 million people live in Mauritius. Most people are descendants of settlers from India, Africa, Europe, and China, creating a wonderful mix of cultures and traditions. Each year, over 1.4 million tourists visit Mauritius – that's more visitors than the country's own population!
LANGUAGES
English and French are the official languages used in schools and government. However, most people speak Mauritian Creole in their daily lives, which is a language that developed from French mixed with words from other languages.
INDUSTRY
Tourism is very important to Mauritius, with visitors coming to enjoy its beaches and tropical weather. Other major industries include making clothes and textiles, growing sugarcane for sugar production, fishing, and financial services. Mauritius has one of the strongest economies in Africa!
