ALL ABOUT Australia

Australia is a massive continent filled with incredible landscapes - from tropical rainforests to vast red deserts, snow-capped mountains to coral reefs. The weather can be very different depending on where you are! But Australia is facing big challenges from climate change. Scientists are working hard to understand what's happening and help protect this amazing continent for future generations. Let's explore what's going on and how people are working to help!
RESIDENTS
Population: About 27.4 million people live in Australia. Most Australians live in big cities near the coast, like Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. Australia welcomes millions of tourists every year who come to see the Great Barrier Reef, unique animals, and beautiful beaches. People from all over the world have moved to Australia, making it one of the most multicultural countries on Earth!
LANGUAGES
English is the main language everyone speaks in Australia. But Australia is home to many other languages too! There are over 350 different languages spoken, including 167 Indigenous languages that belong to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples - the first people to live in Australia for over 65,000 years. Many families also speak languages like Mandarin, Arabic, Vietnamese, and Italian at home because people from many different countries have made Australia their home.
INDUSTRY
Australia is known as a "mining giant" because it digs up lots of important materials from the ground like iron ore (used to make steel), coal, and gold that are sent to countries all around the world. Australia also grows amazing food - it's famous for beef, wheat, and other crops that feed people everywhere. The service industries are really important too, with lots of people working in hospitals, schools, banks, and helping tourists have fun!
