MALAYSIA

STORY TIME
We haven't been to Malaysia yet, but we would love to write a story about Dodo exploring the amazing rainforests! He could swing through the jungle with playful orangutans, discover colorful coral reefs, and learn about the beautiful cultures of Malaysia's many different communities. Malaysia has incredible wildlife, warm friendly people, and some of the oldest rainforests in the world. Dodo would be amazed by all the wonders waiting to be discovered!

FACTS GALORE

ALL ABOUT Malaysia

Malaysia is a beautiful tropical country in Southeast Asia! It's made up of two main parts: Peninsular Malaysia (connected to the Asian mainland) and East Malaysia (on the island of Borneo). Malaysia is famous for its ancient rainforests that are over 130 million years old, stunning beaches, colorful coral reefs, and amazing wildlife like orangutans, tigers, and elephants!
This wonderful country has friendly people from many different cultures, delicious food, and busy modern cities next to beautiful nature. Malaysia has some big challenges like protecting its rainforests from being cut down, saving endangered animals like the Malayan tiger, and dealing with climate change that affects its coasts and coral reefs.

RESIDENTS
Population: About 36 million people live in Malaysia. That's like having everyone from California living in a country smaller than the state of Montana! Malaysia is made up of many different groups including Malays, Chinese, Indians, and indigenous peoples, all living together.
LANGUAGES
The national language is Malay (Bahasa Malaysia), which almost everyone can speak. But Malaysia is home to an amazing 137 different languages! Many people also speak English, especially in cities. Chinese communities speak Mandarin, Cantonese, and other Chinese languages. Indian communities speak Tamil and other languages. Indigenous groups in Sabah and Sarawak speak languages like Iban and Kadazan-Dusun that have been spoken for thousands of years!

INDUSTRY
Malaysia's economy is very diverse! The country makes electronics, computers, and smartphones that are sold around the world. Palm oil is one of Malaysia's biggest industries, though it has caused problems for rainforests. Tourism is also important, with millions of people visiting to see beaches, rainforests, and wildlife. Many people also work on rubber plantations, fishing, and farming.
