CLIMATE

What about UK?
The United Kingdom is a rainy island nation with rolling green hills, ancient castles, and busy cities! From the Scottish Highlands to English beaches, the UK's weather is famous for being cloudy and wet. Let's explore what makes the UK's climate special and how climate change affects this historic kingdom!

Lets go!
What is Climate?
Climate is how Earth’s weather works over a long time, like keeping the air clean and stopping big problems like too much heat or storms.

Taking care of our climate means protecting our planet from getting too sick to support us and the animals that live here.

Stronger Storms in the UK !

Bigger and more frequent storms are hitting the UK's coasts as our planet gets warmer. These strong storms can cause flooding in cities like London and Manchester when too much rain falls.

Historic landmarks like the Tower of London and Edinburgh Castle could be hurt by extreme weather. The beautiful countryside that the UK is famous for is also being damaged by these storms.

What is the uk doing?

The UK has built massive flood barriers, including the famous Thames Barrier in London that looks like giant silver shells!

They're creating "flood plains" - special areas where rivers can safely overflow without hurting homes. Some communities are being taught how to make their homes "flood-ready" with special doors and barriers. Early warning systems send alerts to people's phones when floods are coming so they can stay safe.

The UK Gets Too Hot!

The UK's weather is getting hotter and drier in summer, which is unusual for a country famous for rain! These higher temperatures cause problems because most UK homes and schools don't have air conditioning - they were built for cooler weather.

When it gets super hot, trains have to slow down because the metal tracks can bend in the heat. This happened during the record-breaking 40°C (104°F) heat wave in 2022 when some roads even started melting! Hospitals get busy during heat waves because people aren't used to such hot weather. Farm animals like sheep need extra shade and water to stay cool.

What are they doing? ?

The UK is planting more trees in cities to create cool, shady spots. They're painting some roads white to reflect heat instead of absorbing it.

New buildings are being designed to stay cooler naturally. Weather warnings help people prepare for hot days by staying inside during the hottest hours and drinking lots of water.
